HAMILTON, Ohio – The Muskegon Clippers’ first road trip of the season resulted in a victory in the first game of the three-game series against the Hamilton Joes.

The Clippers scored runs in four consecutive innings on Tuesday and defeated the host Hamilton Joes, 9-7, in a game played at Foundation Field.

The teams will battle again Wednesday and Thursday nights before the Clippers return home for another weekend at Marsh Field.

On Tuesday, Hamilton scored in the bottom of the first, but the Clippers answered back with two in the top of the second. Carson McCoy plated two runs with a single. In the third inning, Justin Johnson had an RBI single.

Muskegon scored three runs in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Austin Cicerone and a two-run double by Johnson.

McCoy added a run-scoring single in the fifth and a second run scored on an error. The Clippers’ final run came in the eighth inning when Stoney Smith drew a bases loaded walk.

Benjamin VanNes was the winning pitcher while Cody Matuz registered the save. The Clippers were plagued by 12 walks.

The Clippers are now 3-1.
