ALLENDALE – The Reeths-Puffer Rocket girls’ golf team kicked off the 2024 season with a 12th-place finish on Friday.

The Rockets shot a team score of 389 in the highly competitive Sydney Carfine Memorial Golf Tournament, which was hosted by Jenison and played at The Meadows on the campus of Grand Valley State University. The tournament included 18 teams.

Leading the way was sophomore Sophia McCollum, who carded a one-over-par 74. Her round was highlighted by five birdies. She finished in third place overall out of 97 golfers and earned all-tournament honors.

Senior Rowan Bluhm finished at 82 and finished in the 10th spot. She also earned an all-tournament medal.

Sophomore Olivia Ambler battled through the tournament and shot a 106. Sophomore Ella Voorhies finished with a 127 and Emma Dvorak, a senior, finished at 140.

“I am really happy for Sophia and Rowan,” said Rocket coach Matt Pallett. “Both are incredible young ladies who have put in the time this summer to improve. There is no mistake why they played well. They have worked hard to put themselves in the position to win medals.”

The team will be back in action on Monday in their first OK Green Jamboree at Railside Golf Course in Byron Center.
