GRAND HAVEN – The Grand Haven football team fell short, 36-28, in a competitive OK-Red loss to Caledonia on Friday night.
The Bucs covered the most ground with 413 total yards to Caledonia’s 343 yards, but couldn’t come up with enough plays to the end zone.
The Bucs led 14-8 early into the second quarter, but lost the lead and trailed, 22-14, by halftime. Though the Bucs were able to answer to each of Caledonia’s second-half touchdowns, they couldn’t overcome the deficit.
The Bucs did have a solid night offensively.
Quarterback Luke Berry went 15-of-21 for 225 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Will Korenstra had five catches for 130 yards and two touchdowns, including a long reception of 85 yards. Andrew Willemsen opened the night’s scoring with an explosive 75-yard rushing touchdown and went on to get 22 carries for 154 yards and another score.
The defense was led by Carson Tithof, who posted five tackles, followed by Jonah Broemer with three tackles. Korenstra and Sawyer Harrison each had two tackles.
Grand Haven (2-2, 1-1) will travel to Grandville for league play on Friday.
