KENT CITY – The Kent City boys soccer team secured their second conference title in school history on Wednesday evening.

The Eagles took down Newaygo, 3-1, to stay undefeated in CSAA-Blue play.

“I’m proud of these guys for continuing to find ways to win matches,” said Kent City coach Pedro Sanchez. “Props to Newaygo for giving us a battle. I knew they could be dangerous, but didn’t expect such a team effort by them.”

The Lions struck first with a goal shortly into the first half, but the Eagles took control and led 2-1 by halftime.

“Our guys responded well to going down early and did enough to secure the match,” said Sanchez. “You can’t ask for much more with a conference title on the line.”

Marcus Arechiga, Zuriel Vega and Giancarlo Coronado each netted a goal. Kevin Espinoza and David Copado-Perez each chipped in one assist.

Kent City (11-2-1) will host Kelloggsville on Monday.

Newaygo (5-7-1) will be at home on Friday against Hart.
