GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Muskegon Lumberjacks built a 3-0 lead, but allowed five unanswered goals and fell to the Madison Capitols on Thursday night.
The game was played at Cornerstone Community Center in Green Bay.
In the opening period, Muskegon’s Rudolfs Berzkalns scored at 8:47 to give Muskegon a 1-0 lead. That score remained unchanged throughout the remainder of the opening period.
In the second period, the Lumberjacks scored at 2:02 on a goal by David Klee and at 4:03 on a goal by Cooper Pierson. Early in the second period, Muskegon led 3-0.
But that was it as the Capitols scored the last five goals, including three by Mason Moe, who capped off the scoring and his hat trick with an empty-net goal in the final minute.
Muskegon goaltender Shikhabutdin Gadzhiev faced 42 shots and made 37 saves.
The Lumberjacks were outshot 42-32.
Muskegon takes on Waterloo in another preseason game on Friday afternoon.
