KENT CITY – The Kent City Eagles had their followers a bit uneasy at the half, then took care of business in a big way in the second half.
Kent City broke open a tight 6-0 game with 24 unanswered points in the second half and defeated the Hart Pirates 30-6.
After a scoreless opening quarter, the Eagles pushed the ball into the end zone in the second quarter on a 7-yard pass from Andre Meade to Grayson Preston.
Kent City cashed in two third-quarter touchdowns and took control of the game. Cooper Houtman scored from a yard out and Logan Thompson added a 20-yard run.
In the final quarter, Cooper Stinson scored Kent City’s last touchdown with a 32-yard run.
Hart broke the shutout on Keaghan Monroe’s 1-yard touchdown run later in the final quarter.
Thompson led Kent City with 10 rushes for 97 yards. Stinson added eight carries for 92 yards. As a team, the Eagles rushed 54 times for 372 yards.
Halen Boos completed 4-of-11 passes for 66 yards for Hart and Kolton Rockwell had two completions for 56 yards. Eman Hertzler caught four passes for 66 yards.
The Pirate defense was led by Kyle Greiner with 11 tackles and Alex Hicks with eight.
Hart travels to North Muskegon next week while Kent City is at Tri-County.
