WAYLAND – The Spring Lake football team went on the road for an OK-White matchup against Wayland Union and fell short, 21-14, on Friday night.
The Lakers were down 21-7 after the first two quarters. Though the defense managed to hold Wayland Union scoreless over the second half, the Lakers only found the end zone once on a short run from Owen Smies in the third quarter to trail by seven points.
Quarterback Reid Grimmer was 2-of-5 for 68 yards and rushed for a touchdown. Owen Smies had seven carries for 33 yards, while Alex Batka went for 63 yards on four rushes and had a 35-yard reception. Landon O’Donnell caught a pass for 33 yards.
Oliver Smies led the Lakers’ defense with six tackles, followed closely by Owen Smies with five tackles, including one for a loss.
Spring Lake (1-4, 0-2) will be at home on Friday for conference play against Forest Hills Eastern.
