HOWARD CITY – It was another long night for the Ludington football team Friday, but in a positive way as the Orioles rolled up a big 51-31 season-ending blowout of Howard City Tri County on the road.

Any doubt whether the Orioles would make it into the playoffs were erased with the win, which was full of eye-popping offensive numbers.

The Orioles’ record scoring spree produced a new school mark of 395 points over nine games, and there will be at least one more to add to that total.

As usual, it was quarterback Cameron Gunsell, the coach’s son, doing most of the work for the offensive show, with a highly efficient 10-of-12 passing accuracy that netted 246 yards and five touchdowns.

Ludington’s leading receiver was Taj Williams, who accounted for 104 yards on just two catches and both went for touchdowns. Also hauling in scoring strikes from Gunsell were Zach Graham and Andre Walden.

The Oriole defense collected three sacks of the Tri-County quarterback, two by Walden and another by Cole Hackert.

Now 7-2 on the season, Ludington has to wait until Sunday to learn its first opponent in the playoffs.
