MUSKEGON – The Mona Shores volleyball team collected their third straight GMAA title at Reeths-Puffer on Saturday.

The Sailors went five sets with Fruitport after dropping the first two in the championship round and battled back to win, 15-25, 20-25, 25-11, 25-23, 15-12.

The Sailors opened with wins against Oakridge (25-11, 25-16) and Montague (25-8, 25-21).

Grace Allen led the Sailors with 38 kills and five blocks. Laynie Russell added 24 kills and 14 blocks, while Cece Gappa chipped in 18 kills and 21 digs. Elena Reister made 70 assists and five blocks. Izzy Sturtevant scored four aces and had 41 digs on defense.

The Trojans finished runner-up with wins over Whitehall (25-12, 25-16) and Western Michigan Christian (25-21, 23-25, 15-5).

The Trojans’ Sadie Haase had 40 kills, 13 aces, 12 digs and three blocks, while Izabel Hanson-Wilbur threw in 22 kills, three aces and 30 digs. Ellie Stroup had 19 kills, one ace and 21 digs. Gracelynn Olson contributed 10 kills, four aces, 84 assists and 23 digs. Emma Fecher scored four aces and had 32 digs.

The Warriors of Western Michigan Christian secured a third-place finish and topped Reeths-Puffer (25-23, 25-13) and Montague (25-6, 25-17), but fell to Fruitport.

Abby Leffring led the Warriors with 32 kills, 19 digs and six blocks. Madie Folkema added 27 kills and 14 digs, while Bri Warners had six kills, 70 assists and 13 digs. Shay Brooks and Emersyn Paling had 10 and seven digs, respectively.

North Muskegon went 2-1 with wins against Oakridge (25-16, 25-14) and Whitehall (25-14, 25-21). The loss came against Montague in tight sets, 20-25, 22-25.

Addie Falkowski had 16 kills, 20 digs and a pair of blocks. Isabella Fornaro threw in 16 kills and made four blocks, while Delaney Young had 14 kills. Olivia Peterson had nine kills, eight aces and 52 assists. Emma Buchmiller scored six aces and had 11 digs.

Montague dropped matches to Mona Shores and WMC, but topped North Muskegon.

The Wildcats’ Maizie Collins led the way with 14 kills, three aces, 26 digs and two blocks. Reagan Cederquist chipped in 13 kills and two blocks, while Emalee McGee scored three aces. Jaelyn Sundberg added 38 assists and Jordan Netcott had 39 digs, defensively.

Reeths-Puffer wrapped up the tournament, 1-2.

The Rockets fell to WMC and Whitehall (15-25, 25-17, 9-15), but slipped past Oakridge (25-19, 22-25, 15-13).

Alissa Klopp had 20 kills, five digs and three blocks, while Makayla Disselkoen added 14 kills and seven blocks. Maddy Dyer contributed four kills, six aces, 53 assists and 15 digs. Carlee Bowen scored three aces and had 32 digs.

The Muskegon Catholic Central volleyball team was 2-0 at the GMAA tournament in the Tier 2 bracket.

The Crusaders took down Holton (25-19, 25-23) and Muskegon Heights (25-6, 25-12).

Molly Caughey led the offense with 18 kills. Claire Carlton added six kills, two aces and six digs, while Briseyda Salazar scored eight aces and had 10 digs. Aubrey Shepherd chipped in six aces and five digs. Emily Muskovin had one ace, 28 assists and five digs.

Mona Shores (26-6) will be at home against Jenison on Tuesday for an OK Conference-Green match.

Fruitport will compete in the OK Conference-Silver championship at Kelloggsville on Saturday.

WMC will be at home on Tuesday against Oakridge.

North Muskegon is set to travel to Whitehall on Tuesday for West Michigan Conference play. 

Montague will host Shelby on Wednesday.

Reeths-Puffer (10-19, 1-6) will take a trip to Byron Center for OK-Green action on Tuesday.
