FREMONT – Newaygo’s Porter Slominski had a big night to help close out the regular season with a 21-14 comeback win over Fremont on Friday night.
The Packers had an edge at the end of the first quarter with a 68-yard touchdown run from Karter Frens and a 2-point conversion by Khai Noordyk that put them ahead, 8-7. The lead grew as quarterback Braydey Crosley found Asa Barnhard for a 40-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter to lead 14-7 by halftime.
However, the Lions came out with a renewed energy after the break.
The Lions fired off an unanswered rushing score from Slominski and a touchdown reception by Wesley Manning in the third quarter to steal the lead.
The Packers were given another opportunity as Chance Crawford recovered a fumble late in the game. Despite moving the ball inside the Lions’ 20-yard line, the Packers would ultimately turn the ball over on downs.
