Ravenna survived a nailbiter soccer victory over Muskegon Catholic in a game that took two days to complete.
In a game that started on Wednesday, and was suspended due to darkness, Ravenna defeated Muskegon Catholic 6-5 in a shootout.
The teams were tied at 5-all when darkness fell on Wednesday. The final minutes of overtime and the shootout were completed on Thursday. In the shootout, the Bulldogs outscored the Crusaders 4-3 to earn the victory.
A goal by MCC’s Sandy Bingham started the scoring 14 minutes into the opening half. Ryan Hilson made it 2-0 and Bingham added another goal early in the second half and the Crusaders led 3-0.
Daniel Mares led the Bulldog comeback with three goals less than eight minutes apart. Regulation ended at 3-all.
Ravenna gained the upperhand in the first overtime on goals by Levi Scott and Ashtyn Hall.
Catholic countered with goals by Max McCumber and Bingham, who completed the three-goal hat trick.
The game was called due to darkness at 2:22 left in overtime.
When no goals were scored, the teams advanced to the shootout.
Mares, the top goal scorer for Ravenna, took over in net while Mike Russick was in net for MCC.
Ravenna outscored Catholic 4-3 in the shootout and claimed the 6-5 victory.
Ravenna’s penalty kicks were scored by James Lemkie, Daniel Mares, Tyler Pelham, and James Korson. Catholic’s shootout goals were scored by Bingham, Santiago Sanchez, and Ryan Hilson.
Ravenna had a 14-8 advantage in shots.
Ravenna advances to take on Western Michigan Christian next Wednesday at Warrior Field.
