KENT CITY – It was an explosive second quarter in Kent City Friday night.

The host Eagles entered the second quarter down a point, but outscored the Grant Tigers 22-7 in the second stanza on their way to a 34-14 win.

Andre Mead started the second-quarter onslaught with a 30-yard TD run just minutes into the quarter. Grant knotted the score at 14-14 just 4:35 before the half, then the hosts rallied.

Logan Thompson scored a 10-yard rushing TD with 2:16 left in the first half and Meade unloaded a 16-yard TD pass to Kayden Kamanu with just 8 seconds left that put the Eagles up 28-14 at the break.

Meade put the game away with a 70-yard touchdown scamper in the third quarter to round out the game’s scoring.

Cooper Houtman opened the scoring with a 3-yard TD run for Kent City just minutes into the game. Meade rushed for a game-high 150 yards on eight carries and went 2-for-4 for 62 passing yards. Harrison Smith had 36 yards rushing and 46 through the air.

Houtman had seven tackles to pace the Eagles’ defense. Kale Freeland had six tackles and two interceptions, Meade had six tackles, two for loss, and Jaden Loomis added four tackles and a pick.
