SPRING LAKE – The Spring Lake football team unleashed a lot of its frustration and snapped a six-game losing streak by beating Grand Rapids Christian 62-28 on Friday night.
The Lakers jumped out to a 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, scoring on a 1-yard run and a 50-yard pass from Landon O’Donnell and a 5-yard touchdown run by Darrel Lawrence.
Lawrence added a 60- and 6-yard touchdown run while Reid Grimmer caught a 20-yard pass from Oliver Smies, giving Spring Lake a 41-14 halftime lead.
Owen Smies scored on a 23-yard touchdown as the Lakers entered the fourth quarter with a 48-22 advantage.
The Lakers closed out their scoring with a 12-yard touchdown run by Jack Nash and a 41-yard “pick 6” by Chase Segaar.
Lawrence had 113 yards rushing on 12 carries to lead Spring Lake while scoring three touchdowns. O’Donnell had 10 rushes for 67 yards and one touchdown.
Oliver Smies and Brody Boodt each had five tackles to lead the Lakers’ defense.
Spring Lake, which is now 2-6 on the season, will finish the season next Friday at home against Allendale.
