SPRING LAKE – The Spring Lake Lakers dominated the ground game Friday night, compiling six rushing toucdowns enroute to the 46-16 win over Allendale.

Spring Lake rushed for 271 yards and wore down the Falcons late. The Lakers scored the final four touchdowns of the game and held the visitors scoreless in the second half.

Darrel Lawrence scored four TDs for Spring Lake, rushing for a game-high 97 yards on 13 carries. Lawrence scored the first two TDs of the game from 18- and 1-yard out to put the Lakers up 14-0. He scored from 5 yards out before halftime to go up 28-16, and his last midway through the fourth quarter on a 3-yard run that made it 40-16.

Oliver Smies busted a 95-yard kick return for a score for Spring Lake late in the first quarter and Landon O’Donnell and Nick St. George added fourth-quarter rushing touchdowns.

Allendale’s Ian Bruce scored on a 6-yard rushing touchdown to get within 14-8, but Smies brought back the ensuing kickoff to give the hosts breathing room. Then, Bunce scored in the second quarter from a yard out to pull the Falcons within 20-16, but Spring Lake shut down the Falcon offense and rattled off four straight scores for the win.

O’Donnell finished with 14 carries for 82 yards and Smies had nine carries for 67 yards for Spring Lake. Smies and Tag Kelly each had five tackles to pace the hosts.
