ALLENDALE – Western Michigan Christian senior Matthias Morse took first place in Saturday’s Division 3 regional cross country meet.

Morse toured the course in 16:02.79 and led the Warriors to a second-place finish and a berth in next weekend’s state finals at Michigan International Speedway. Grand Rapids Covenant Christian won the regional title with 63 points.

Sophomore Owen Sytsema was the second Warrior to cross the finish line, followed by Josiah Scholma in 18th, Alexander Lawrence in 19th and Rueben Anderson in 23rd.

Other top finishers for local teams included Newaygo’s David Castrejon, who finished fifth and Montague’s Nolan Kessler, who came in eighth.
