The area’s most successful soccer teams during the season also landed the most players on the all-state teams.

The teams were announced by the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association.

Five players earned first-team all-state honors, including four from a Western Michigan Christian team that captured the Division 4 state title for the third year in a row.

The fifth area player to garner first-team honors was high-scoring Jorge Burgos-Yack, a dynamic junior forward from Fruitport, which completed the regular season undefeated before suffering its only loss in the Division 2 regionals. The Trojans spent a good share of the season ranked No. 1 in Division 2.

In all, Western Michigan Christian had seven players honored between first team and honorable mention. Fruitport and North Muskegon each had five players honored. All three teams were ranked among the state’s best in their respective divisions throughout the season.
