Fruitport uses four games to top St. Johns for Division 2 regional title

ADA – The Fruitport volleyball team fought its way to a Division 2 regional title on Thursday night with a four-set win over St. John’s at Grand Rapids Forest Hills Eastern.

The Trojans used an early edge to build a two-set lead, winning 25-21 and 25-16. They dropped the third game, 17-25, but bounced back to capture the title with a 25-18 win.

The Trojans’ Ellie Stroup had 15 kills, two aces and 13 digs. Sadie Haase added 10 kills, four aces and nine digs, while Izabel Hanson-Wilbur had nine kills, two aces and 17 digs.

Gracelynn Olson had powered Fruitport’s offense with 27 assists and also had four kills, three aces, and 10 digs. Emma Fecher scored two aces and had nine digs.

Fruitport’s win advances it to play in Tuesday’s state quarterfinal at Fremont for a 7 p.m. game time against Essexville Garber.
