MUSKEGON – The Muskegon Community College men’s basketball team is enjoying the home-court advantage at the start of the season.
 
On Tuesday, the Jayhawks overcame a slow start and earned a 71-54 victory over the Calvin University JV team. MCC is now 3-0 heading into Thursday’s home contest against the Hope College JV team at Bartels-Rode Gymnasium.
 
The Jayhawks got a needed lift from sophomore Will Chye, who scored 16 of the team’s 37 points in the opening half. That allowed the home team to take a 37-25 lead into halftime.
 
MCC turned up the defensive pressure in the second half and limited the Knights to 26 percent shooting.  Freshman Ny’Zhem Marshall finished with 11 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks. Sophomore guard Darius Williams added 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Chye finished the game with 21 points.
 
MCC outscored Calvin 34-29 in the second half and cruised to the double-digit victory.
