SCOTTVILLE – The Mason County Central football team bowed out of the Division 6 district tournament with a 50-32 loss against Standish-Sterling on Friday night.

Despite Friday’s outcome, the season was a big success of the Spartans, who finished 8-2.

The Spartans found themselves down 36-12 after the first two quarters and couldn’t recover with three turnovers and big scoring plays from Sterling-Standish.

Peyton Merz led the Spartans on both sides of the ball with 180 yards rushing on 27 carries, including a long run of 60 yards, with a touchdown. He also had six tackles, two for loss, and a sack.

Quarterback Pierce Bladzik was 7-of-16 for 104 yards with a touchdown and an interception, while also finding the end zone on the ground. Drake McKay had seven carries for 56 yards and a 46-yard touchdown.

Eathen Huffman had 39 yards receiving with a score and Quentin Lange caught two passes for 54 yards.

Tyler Norton recorded six tackles and Colter Kirchner made five tackles.
