WATERFORD – The Muskegon Voyagers fell to the Waterford Sharks on Saturday night for their first loss of the young season.
The host Sharks scored four goals in the opening period and went on to a 7-2 victory over the Voyagers (2-1).
The game was played at Lakeland Arena in Waterford.
Zach Grover opened the scoring for Muskegon with assistance from Christian Montgomery and Sam Benner. From there, however, Waterford struck for four goals and took a 4-1 lead into the first intermission.
Waterford added two second-period goal and led 6-1 after 40 minutes.
Luke McCarthy scored Muskegon’s final goal at 13:51 of the third period. Chris Hawkins and Grover drew the assists.
Mike Redmon led Waterford with three goals and one assist for a four-point night.
The Voyagers were outshot 47-23. Goaltender Devon Lay had 40 saves for Muskegon, which hits the road for a game at the Detroit Warhawks on Saturday night.
Home action returns to Lakeshore Sports Centre the weekend of Nov. 16-17 against the Sharks. Saturday’s game begins at 7:30 p.m. while Sunday’s matinee begins at 1:15 p.m.
