MUSKEGON – The Spring Lake volleyball team edged out Oakridge (25-20, 25-22, 25-22) in the Division 2 district opener on Tuesday evening.

“We put together three pretty decent sets against a much-improved Oakridge team,” said Spring Lake coach Edward Bailey. “We got ourselves in a couple of ruts but got out of them for the set victories. Oakridge played some very tough defense on our attacks, but we stayed the course and pulled out the win.”

The Lakers’ Katherine Penning led the way with 12 kills and 14 digs. Brianna Kirby had seven kills, while Aliya Williams added six kills and three blocks. Brooke St. George chipped in seven aces and two blocks.

Audrey Marine scored an ace and made 21 assists. Peyton Hein contributed one ace and 13 assists.

The Eagles’ Gracie Willea had five kills, 11 assists and 10 digs, while Cami Guenthardt had five kills and four blocks. Avery Willea threw in on offense with five kills. Athena Wei led the defense with 13 digs.

Spring Lake (10-20) will take on Montague at Orchard View for the district semifinal on Thursday. 

Oakridge closed out the season with a record of 8-15.
