BROOKLYN – Area girls turned in solid performances on Saturday at the Division 3 state cross country finals.

The daylong event, that includes all four divisions, was run at Michigan International Speedway.

In the team event, the Western Michigan Christian girls finished seventh with 256 points. Hart was eighth with 271 points.

Kent City’s Lila Volkers was the top individual finisher among area runners with a third-place finish in 17:55.2. Western Michigan Christian senior Grace VanderKooi was fifth in 17:58.6.

Lansing Catholic was crowned the Division 3 state champion with 136 points. Pewamo-Westphalia was second with 147 and Stanton Central Montcalm was third with 157. Central Montcalm also featured the individual winner in senior Kyah Hoffman, who turned in a time of 17:31.6.
