The Muskegon Lumberjacks winning streak was snapped at four games on Wednesday morning in a 3-1 loss against a tough Team USA Under-18 squad.

The Lumberjacks are now 16-6-3 on the season, good for 35 points which is currently good for first place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Muskegon will look to bounce back this weekend on the road against the Madison Capitols starting on Friday night. Faceoff is slated for 8:05 p.m.

Team USA jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Cole McKinney (15:53) and Richard Gallant (18:31) in the first period.

The Lumberjacks scored the lone second-period goal 10:23 into the period off the stick of Teddy Spitznagel to cut the deficit to 2-1. David Deputy and Jack Galanek assisted on the power-play goal.

Team USA closed out the scoring with a goal from Maceo Phillips 15:27 into the third period.

The Lumberjacks were outshot by Team USA 42-27. Muskegon goalatender Shikhabutdin Gadzhiev stopped 39-of-42 shots.

Muskegon kept the contest close by killing off six of Team USA’s seven power plays.
