WHITEHALL – The Shelby girls’ basketball team started the season with a bang as they blew by Whitehall 53-17 in a non-conference game on Monday evening. 

The Tigers came out fighting and led the Vikings 26-7 by halftime and kept their pace for the rest of the game.

Jayna Burmeister had a strong opening game just shy of a triple-double with 21 points, eight steals and eight rebounds. Also, Michelle Peterson scored 10 points for the Tigers.

Shelby (1-0) will open play at home on Thursday against White Cloud.

Whitehall (0-1) will take a trip to Cadillac on Thursday.
