Western Michigan Christian kicked off the girls’ basketball season with a convincing 50-28 victory over visiting Oakridge on Monday night.

The Warriors used a quick start to take down the Eagles by jumping out to a 22-3 first-quarter lead. WMC continued to build its momentum in the second quarter and led 36-13 at halftime.

“It was a great opening night of basketball for our team,” said first-year WMC coach Tyler Ray. “I am extremely proud of how the girls came out in the first quarter ready to compete.”

The two teams played nearly even in the second half as the Warriors led 42-19 entering the final quarter of action.

WMC’s Madie Folkema led the way with 15 points while Emersyn Paling and Maria Eeningenburg each had nine points.

Oakridge’s Cambria Guenthardt led all scorers with 16 points.
