HART – The Hart girls’ basketball team took control of its conference on Tuesday after topping a Ravenna squad that was only allowing 25 points a game.
The Pirates battled to a 62-42 victory and extended their WMC-Rivers win streak.
The Pirates had control over the first half and went into the break with a 36-17 lead. The Bulldogs cut into the deficit over the third quarter with a 13-5 scoring advantage. Hart struggled to find the basket, but still held on to a 41-30 lead.
In the fourth quarter, the Pirates turned up the pressure and forced several turnovers that converted to points to seal the win.
“Things didn’t go our way in the third quarter. We got some good looks and just missed shots and played a bit slow on defense,” Hart coach Travis Rosema said. “However, I was happy with how we responded to adversity and finished the game strong.”
Addi Hovey led the Pirates with 23 points, nine steals, seven rebounds and two blocks. Rilynn Porter added 12 points, five assists, two rebounds and a steal, while Reese Smith had 10 points, four rebounds and three steals.
Kelsey Copenhaven also chipped in six points, seven rebounds and five steals.
Hart (7-1 overall, 4-0 WMC-Rivers) hosts Hesperia on Thursday for league play.
Ravenna (6-2 overall, 3-2 WMC-Rivers) will be at Western Michigan Christian on Friday.
