LAKEVIEW – The Holton girls’ basketball team got the upper hand in a tight, 41-39, victory over Lakeview on Tuesday.
“Another game where we were outmatched in size in the paint by a lot,” said Holton coach Robert Jordan. “But collectively as a team, we were able to limit the post touches as much as we could.”
The Red Devils went back and forth with Lakeview and trailed 17-16 at halftime.
The tug of war continued into the second half and Lakeview edged out the Red Devils 25-23 with a quarter left to play.
The Red Devils found a spark in the fourth quarter that helped them take the lead. Monica Mullins hit two clutch go-ahead free throws with 9 seconds left to cap the scoring.
The Red Devils’ Lexi Bartolameolli scored 11 points, including two big 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. Kaylee McMillan chipped in 11 points and took care of the ball as the freshman point guard. Aubrey Goyings scored nine points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
“I’m really proud of us playing a complete game,” said Jordan. “Typically, we played two or three really good quarters and have one quarter which loses the game for us. Tonight, we had four solid competitive quarters which is a step in the right direction.”
Holton (5-8, 2-5) hosts Big Rapids Crossroads Academy on Thursday.
