SCOTTVILLE – It was a tie game after the first period before the Lakeshore Badgers co-op ice hockey team scored three unanswered goals in the second and eventually overwhelmed East Kentwood, 8-3, on Wednesday night.

The game was played at the West Shore Community Ice Arena in Scottville. The victory snapped a two-game losing streak for the Badgers.

“We just didn’t finish on some of the chances we had in the first period,” Badgers coach Lucas Johnson said. “We had 22 shots in the first period alone. I mean, we had heavy pressure on them. The second period we came out and got a quick one. The third we came out a little flat and they got a quick one right away. But then we recovered just fine. We had control of the game the whole way.”

Overall, the Badgers peppered the Falcons’ goal with 51 shots and dominated possession from start to finish, although the Falcons’ goalie played lights out.

The Falcons were still in striking distance with an early second-period goal, but the Badgers scored the final three goals and led, 4-1.

Leading scorer Isaac Embury of Ludington led the way for the Badgers with two goals and two assists.

Also scoring goals for the Badgers were Tristan Horrigan, Anderson Riemer, his first of the season, Lucas Schade and Levi Young.

It’ll be tough sledding for the Badgers (8-7) this weekend, as they travel to play Grand Blanc on Friday and the Thumb Area Region on Saturday.
