MUSKEGON – Mona Shores senior bowler Derek Kern rolled his second 300 game in less than a year on Monday and led the Sailors to a big victory.

Shores defeated Caledonia 28-2.

The meet, at Sherman Bowling Center, featured Kern with not only a 300, but a 237 game and a school-record tying 537 for two games. Kern rolled his first perfect game last spring in the regional tournament.

“With it being out last match, I wanted to switch things up a bit,” said Sailor coach Ron Bacon. “I told the guys that Derek was going to lead off tonight so some other guys would get some time somewhere else in the lineup. I joked with Derek that going in the 1-hole should take the pressure off him. He just laughed and said, ‘I got this.'”

The Sailor girls, competing one bowler short, dropped their match to Caledonia, 27-3.
