REED CITY – Collin Hatfields scored the game-winning touchdown on a 29-yard run in the fourth quarter to give Reed City a 22-14 victory over Newaygo Friday in a Central State Athletic Conference matchup.

There was no scoring in the first quarter, and the teams traded two touchdowns apiece in the second.

Brett Korytkowski opened the scoring for the Lions with a four-yard touchdown burst. Reed City’s Andre Jones answered with a 63-yard scoring scamper to tie the game.

Newaygo’s Heath Herrington had a 51-yard touchdown run to put the Lions back in the lead, then Chad Samuels hit Hatfields with a 69-yard scoring strike to knot the game at halftime.

There was no scoring in the third quarter, setting up Hatfields’ heroics that sealed the win for the Coyotes.

Newaygo amassed over 400 yards in total offense but was crippled by 100 yards in penalties. The Lions were hurt by an inability to make key tackles throughout the game, according to coach Andy Busch.

Newaygo quarterback Weston Butler was 8 for 13 in passing for 141 yards. Herrington finished with 13 carries for 121 yards, two catches for 35 yards and one touchdown.

Rio Heinzman added 10 rushes for 78 yards for the Lions. A.J. Bays led the defense with 13 tackles
