MUSKEGON – The Mona Shores boys soccer team played well Monday night in its final match before the start of league play, defeating visiting Whitehall 3-0.
The Sailors’ Christian Zuchauer got his team on the board with what Sailor head coach ….. referred to as “a brilliant shot from just inside the 18.” Zuchauer buried the shot after receiving the pass from teammate Nate Hoover.
Later in the half, Destin Morely drove a shot into the back of the Viking net from about 30 yards away, putting the Sailors up 2-0.
The Sailors’ Jacob DeRemer, again assisted by Hoover, finished the job with a second-half score that saw Hoover beat four Whitehall defenders and then set the table for DeRemer with a pass just in front of the mouth of the goal.
The Sailors outshot the Vikings 13-5, while goalkeeper Eli Bowers notched his second shutout victory of the young season.
The Sailors host Muskegon Tuesday evening to open OK Black Conference play.
