Red Wings 2, Sabres 1 (SO) – The Red Wings snapped their four-game losing streak with a shootout win over the Buffalo Sabres on the road Wednesday night.
Detroit outscored the Sabres 2-1 in the shootout period on goals from Gustav Nyquist and former Sabre Thomas Vanek.
Red Wings’ goaltender Jimmy Howard picked up an impressive win, stopping 32 of 33 shots in regulation and overtime.
Nyquist opened the scoring at the 16 minute mark of the second period to give the Red Wings a 1-0 advantage after two periods.
The Sabres tied the game 1-1 on a goal from Brian Gionta 1:42 into the third period to force overtime before heading into a three-round shootout.
The Red Wings are now 9-10-1 on the season, good for 19 points and a seventh place tie in the Atlantic Division.
Detroit will look to start a long winning streak on Friday on the road against the New Jersey Devils.

Pistons 107, Heat 84 – The Pistons snapped their four-game losing streak with a convincing win over the Miami Heat on Wednesday night.
Detroit jumped out to a 28-16 lead after the first quarter, led 56-42 at halftime and entered the fourth quarter with an 86-64 advantage.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope led the Pistons with 22 points while Andre Drummond contributed with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Tobias Harris added 17 points for Detroit and Beno Udrih chipped in with 12 points off the bench.
The Heat were led by Tyler Johnson and James Johnson with 17 and 15 points, respectively.
The Pistons will look to start a winning streak on Friday night against the Los Angeles Clippers.
