The Muskegon Heights boy’s basketball team will get another opportunity to win a regional championship on Wednesday.

The Tigers advanced to the Class C regional finals with an easy 66-29 victory over Galesburg-Augusta on Monday in semifinal action at Belding High School.

Last year they lost to Calvin Christian in the finals. On Wednesday they meet Grand Rapids Covenant Christian, which defeated Pewamo-Westphalia 56-52 in double overtime in the first semifinal on Monday.

“Tonight was our first time seeing them live,” Muskegon Heights Coach Del Stewart said about Covenant Christian. “I had a little information beforehand. I think they’re a terrific ball team. I expect them to come out and play hard.”

The Tigers jumped out to a 10-4 lead over Galesburg-Augusta after the first quarter behind seven points from Antoine Jones.

Muskegon Heights took a 27-14 lead into halftime, then expanded their advantage to 45-24 after three quarters.

The Tigers finished off the Rams with a 21-5 edge in the fourth quarter.

Anthony Jones and Antoine Jones each had 15 points for the Tigers, who had 10 different players score. The Rams were led by Trevor Patterson and Bryan Beard with eight points each.

“I felt like what we did tonight was what we were supposed to do,” Stewart said. “I felt like we could just be successful if we did things the way we can. We were able to get out in transition and assert ourselves.”

“It feels good to win,” said Anthony Jones. “We work hard each and every day. It would mean a lot (winning a regional title), especially after losing last year. It kept hurting but it’s made me better.”
