KALAMAZOO—The Muskegon Community College Jayhawks women’s softball team hit the road on Wednesday afternoon to take on Kalamazoo Community College and dropped both games of a doubleheader to the Cougars.

The Jayhawks dropped the first game 6-2 and the nightcap 12-4

Makayla Thompson (Reeths Puffer) took the loss for the Jayhawks in the first game, allowing 6 runs on 11 hits, striking out seven, while not allowing a walk.

Kennadi Dykstra (Fruitport) hit a home run in the seventh inning, putting the Jayhawks on the scoreboard. Dykstra, Brianna Pastor (Oakridge), and Annika Roersma (West Catholic) collected multiple hits for the Jayhawks. Dykstra went 3-for-4 at the plate.

Hayden Ruel (Oakridge) hit a solo home run to start off the game and Kendyll Bond (Jenison) hit another one also in the first inning.

Bond took the loss for the Jayhawks allowing 11 runs on 12 hits and striking out 1.

Bond led the Jayhawks at the plate going 3 for 4. Annika Roersma (West Catholic) also hit a home run in the 5th inning.

The Jayhawks are now 16-6 on the season and will travel to Benton Harbor on Friday afternoon to take on Lake Michigan College. Game time is set for 3pm. Muskegon Community College then will host Jackson College on Saturday afternoon with the action to get underway at 1pm.
