RIVER GROVE, IL –The Muskegon Community College wrestling team competed in the Art Kraft Memorial Open on Saturday.

Kayla Venema came back into the lineup this week and nearly claimed the top spot, but fell short with a second-place finish.

“My heart just breaks for him, he was leading by points the whole match and made a costly mistake,” said coach Mark Brunger.

“That said, I am truly happy for the whole team.  This is our best effort as a team when it comes to both intensity and technique.”

Reeths-Puffer’s own Jacob Blawat (125) and Gerrit Andrus (174) each claimed a fourth-place finish.

Also, Max Brown recorded an eight-second fall to tie the school record held by Venema, who set the record earlier in the season.

MCC will be at home on Saturday to host the MCCAA Dual Meet Championships.
