MUSKEGON — Suddenly, there’s a tie atop the OK-Green standings in girls’ basketball.

That’s because on Friday night, the host Reeths-Puffer Rockets turned up the intensity in the fourth quarter and defeated the Muskegon Big Reds 56-52. The result means the Rockets and Big Reds are now tied for first place.

Reeths-Puffer led 13-12 after one quarter, but Muskegon battled back in the second quarter and took a 25-21 lead into halftime.

That lead increased to 36-30 in the third quarter thanks to an 11-9 Muskegon scoring advantage.

The start of the final quarter and started an eight-minute stretch in which the Rockets scored 26 points and limited Muskegon to 10.

Reeths-Puffer had three players score in double figures. Sophia Hekkema scored 10 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Brooklyn Tornes added 16 points and eight rebounds and Ariel Walker had 12 points. Irelyn Niklasch had 10 rebounds.

Muskegon was led by Bre’Asia Game-Jones with 12 points. Tyveonna Davis chipped in with 11 points and Aaliyah Winston had 10.

Reeths-Puffer travels to Grand Rapids Union on Tuesday.

Muskegon hosts Zeeland East on Tuesday.
