SHELBY – It took just three sets for Shelby volleyball to dispatch Montague on Wednesday night as the Tigers won 25-14, 25-18 and 25-23.

It was a hot start for Shelby that saw them take the first set handily, but the Wildcats fought back harder in each set, pushing the Tigers to the bitter end.

The Tigers were led by junior Navea Gauthier with 24 kills, 13 digs, six aces and three blocks. Audrey Horton recorded a team high 14 assists while Hannah Frees led in digs with 13.

Montague received valuable contributions from Jaelyn Sundberg, who tallied 21 assists, three aces and three kills. Alissa Wynn added 10 digs and four aces, while Britta Johnson threw in five digs, three kills and an ace.

Shelby (5-2) opens conference play on Tuesday at Mason County Central. Montague (1-2-2) will host Spring Lake on Monday.
