MUSKEGON – The Fruitport and Reeths-Puffer boys soccer teams went scoreless in a battle of state-ranked teams on Saturday afternoon.

The Rockets came into the contest ranked 14th in Division 1 while Fruitport is No. 8 in Division 2.

The Trojans outshot the Rockets, 9-4.

“We had players step in and step up which allowed us to compete with a really good Reeths-Puffer team,” said Fruitport coach Dan Hazekamp. “I thought we generated some really quality scoring opportunities, but just could not find the net.”

“Overall, I’m really proud of the boys.”

Goalkeeper Logan Werschem made four saves for the Trojans.

Braylon Marshall, Jorge Burgos-Yack and Issaac Vandermolen were credited with their play on offense while Brady Brown, Braxton Ward, Elijah Aldridge and Sam Krueger played strong defensively.

Fruitport (7-2-2, 2-2-1) will be at home to face rival Spring Lake for an OK Conference-Blue showdown on Monday.

Reeths-Puffer (9-2-1, 4-1) is set for OK Conference-Green action on Tuesday at Zeeland East.
