GAYLORD — In a tight match, the Ludington girls swimming team bested host Gaylord 92-84 Thursday in a Coastal Conference matchup.

Reese Willis won a pair of extremely tight races, touching the wall first in the 50 and 100 freestyle competitions by 0.03 of a second.

Carley Sova turned in an impressive performance for the Orioles in the 500 free, shaving a significant chunk of time from her best finishes.

Ava Carlson also lowered her time in the 200 IM as the team recorded six lifetime swims, and nine season-best swims.

Madison Bearup picked up a win in the 200 IM, Cora Mahler was first in the 200 free and Izzie Lundberg beat the field in the 100 backstroke.

The Orioles’ 200 freestyle relay team of Bearup, Willis, Mahler and Kylie Sailor also finished first.

“I was impressed with how well the team stepped up to race against some good competition,” said Ludington coach Kelley Hatch. “This is Gaylord’s first year in the Coastal Conference, so we are looking forward to even more close races at the conference meet.”
