MESICK–The Mason County Eastern Cardinals swept the first West Michigan D cross country jamboree on Thursday afternoon.

The event was run at Mesick High School.

In girls action, the Cardinal easily ran past Pentwater as they had five runners finish in the top ten to finish with 17 while the Falcons finished at 41.

Top runners for MCE included sophomore Lauren Niedzielski (second), freshman Brailyn Johnson (sixth), junior Lucy Shoup (seventh), freshman Addison Malburg (ninth) and senior Olivia Wing (10th).

Top runners for Pentwater included freshman Bailey Case (eighth), senior Abby Hughes (12th), senior Ireland Breitner (19th), freshman Lily Smith (9th) and sophomore Lauren Davis (22nd).

In the boys’ division, Mason County Eastern posted a score of 43. They were followed by Pentwater with 53 points, Mesick with 62 and Bear Lake-Onekama rounded out the field with 76.

Pentwater senior Abe VanDuinen finished in the top spot with a time of 16:56.21.

MCE senior Luke Niedzieski led the Cardinal runners with a fifth-place finish, He was followed by senior Peter Hybza (eighth), freshman Mike Shoup (ninth), junior Henry Malburg (10th) and junior Greyson Hoeflinger (11th).

Following VanDuinen for the Falcons were senior Mitchel Daniels (sixth), junior Ron Hasenbank (13th), sophomore Ben Merten (19th) and sophomore Bode Powell (21st).

Walkerville freshman Aron Mascorro finished 15th.
