NORTON SHORES – The last two state soccer champions in Division 4 went at it on Tuesday night at Western Michigan Christian High School.

In the end, the host Warriors, the defending state champions, defeated Potters House Christian, the state champs in 2021. Currently, Western Michigan Christian is ranked No. 2 in Division 4.

WMC won, 4-1, in the Alliance League matchup.

Senior Lucas Dick opened the scoring for WM Christian 22 minutes into the contest after some hard work by Cole DeJonge and Tekalegn Vlasma.

Minutes later, Vlasma sent a through ball that teammate Ryan Riksen got to before the Potters House goalkeeper. Riksen set up Charlie Buursma for a goal into the empty net.

With seven minutes left before halftime, Buursma set up Riksen on the wing for a long shot that nicked the near post and went in.

The Warriors got their final goal from senior Ben Pollock as he took a pass from Vlasma just outside the 18 and sent a high shot over the keeper’s head.

WMC keeper Dan Minasian had three saves in the win.

The Warriors (6-1-3 overall, 2-0-0 Alliance) host Grand Haven at Warrior Field at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday (tonight).
