Reeths-Puffer sinks Mona Shores in O-K Green tournament action

Reeths-Puffer struck down rival Mona Shores 2-1 for its second victory over the Sailors this season in the opening round of the O-K Green conference tournament on Tuesday.

 

The Rockets jumped ahead 2-0 in the first half on a pair of goals by Liam Smith. The Reeths-Puffer standout found the back of the net 26 minutes into the first half on a penalty kick. Six minutes later, Smith added his second goal of the night. 

 

Mona Shores was able to tighten the score in the second half on an Easton Lopez goal that was assisted by Ethan Fulton. However, that was as close as it would get as the Rockets will advance to the winners’ bracket in the tournament.

Reeths-Puffer (14-3-1 overall) will face Zeeland West—one of the few teams to best the Rockets this season—on Thursday at Zeeland West. Meanwhile, Mona Shores (3-14-1 overall) will host Zeeland East.
