The Muskegon Lumberjacks offense had a third-period wake-up call in their 6-2 win over Sioux Falls on Saturday.

The Jacks scored four goals in the final period, snapping a short, two-game losing streak.

Muskegon is now 13-9-2 on the season, good for 28 points and fourth place in the USHL’s Eastern Conference.

The Lumberjacks will return home next weekend, when they host the Chicago Steel for two games at Trinity Health Arena. Face-off will be at 7:00 p.m. both Friday and Saturday night’s.

Muskegon newcomer Beau Lane had a terrific debut in net for the Lumberjacks, stopping 32-of-34 Sioux Falls shots on net.

Both teams scored a goal during the opening period as Jack Galanek struck first for Muskegon, midway into the frame, giving the Jacks a 1-0 lead.

Muskegon let the Stampede tie the game with 45 seconds left in the first period on a goal from J.J. Wiebusch. Sioux Falls outshot the Lumberjacks by a 12-7 margin in the first 20 minutes.

Muskegon scored the lone goal of the middle period as Hunter Anderson found the back of the net to give the Lumberjacks a 2-1 lead.

The Lumberjacks held a 22-18 advantage in the shots on goal department, heading into the final period.

Muskegon scored three unanswered goals to start the third period as Ty Henricks scored a pair of goals at the 8:56 and 10:24 marks of the third.

David Klee added a shorthanded tally 13:02 into the third period to extend Muskegon’s lead to a 5-1 margin.

The Stampede responded late in the game with a goal from Jaksen Panzer.

The Lumberjacks closed out the scoring with a late goal by Cody Croal.

Muskegon was outshot by Sioux Falls by a slim, 34-32 margin, on the night.

Muskegon went 0-for-5 on its power play opportunities but killed off the Stampede’s lone man advantage while scoring a shorthanded tally.
