NORTON SHORES – The Western Michigan Christian girls’ basketball team fell to Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian, 44-35, on Monday.

The Warriors trailed the entire game, but did manage to make a fourth-quarter run and close the gap. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be enough.

“We worked hard to compete for every possession tonight,” said WMC coach Sarah Koetsier. “We had some great shots that bounced around the rim and did not fall. I am proud of how we fought to come back in the fourth quarter.”

Kate Derdowski led the Warriors with 10 points and four rebounds. Ashley Folkema scored 10 points and grabbed three rebounds, while Maria Eenigenburg added six points. Hannah Heiss threw in five rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals.

WMC (2-2, 1-0) will be right back at home on Wednesday against Grandville Calvin Christian.
