NEWAYGO – The Newaygo girls basketball team gave up a first-half lead and narrowly fell to Reed City, 37-35, in CSAA play on Wednesday evening.

“Tough loss for us tonight,” said Newaygo coach Nathan Thomasma. “Reed City is a pretty good team, and to their credit, they made some plays down the stretch to pull out the win.”

The Lions led 22-14 after the first two quarters, but Reed City managed to knot it up by the end of the third quarter and pull ahead.

Naomi Schillman put up 11 points to lead Newaygo while Amaya Lathrop added six points, five blocks and four steals.

“The key for us is to build off of this game,” said Thomasma. “There were a lot of positives to take out of it.”

Newaygo (5-7, 1-5) will host White Cloud on Friday in a league contest.
