CUSTER — Mason County Eastern’s girls softball team got out the brooms Thursday, sweeping a West Michigan D League doubleheader with visiting Pentwater at St. Mary’s Field, 12-5 and 15-2.
The Cardinals sent Miley Kessel to the pitcher’s circle for the opener, and she spun a real gem, allowing just two hits and a couple of walks while ringing up 14 strikeouts.
Kessel and Aubrey Meyers rapped out three hits apiece as the Cardinals finished with 10 hits. Kessel ripped two triples, while Hannah Kluth beat out two bunt singles.
Brailyn Johnson picked up the win in the second game, walking one and giving up four hits. She recorded one strikeout and aided her own cause at the plate with two hits, including a triple.
Eastern returns the favor on Tuesday when the Cardinals pay the Falcons a visit for another WMD twin bill.
