MARION – It doesn’t matter who gets the most hits … it which team scores the most runs.
 
On Friday in a Division 4 pre-district softball game, the Mason County Eastern Cardinals outhit Pentwater 7-4, but it was the Falcons who advanced to the district semifinal with an 8-5 victory.
 
The game was played at Marion High School.
 
Pentwater moves into the district semifinal at 10 a.m.  Friday against White Cloud. Marion and Holton make up the other side of the semifinal bracket.
 
Brailyn Johnson led the Cardinals with two hits, including a double and two RBI. Aubrey Myers added a double and an RBI. Singles were collected by Kennady Tyler, Eline Schulstad, Bridget Whitaker and Avery Crawford. 
 
Miley Kessel pitched six innings and gave up four hits, eight walks. She posted and strikeouts. Brailyn Johnson pitched one inning and walked three and struck out three.
 
“We had a great season, and I am proud of the work these girls put in, on and off the field,” said MCE coach Jennifer Whitaker.    “We had a lot of improvement from last year and I am excited to see what these girls have in store for next season.”
 
MCE finished the year 7-14 overall, 5-5 in the West Michigan D League.
