GRAND RAPIDS – The Reeths-Puffer boys soccer team found themselves on the winning end of an exciting 2-1 season opener over East Grand Rapids on Friday.
“It was a great first game of the season, but there’s still a ton to work on,” said Reeths-Puffer coach Kody Harrell.
The game was scoreless going into halftime, but the Rockets came out hot to score two goals in the first five minutes of the second half.
Nick Clemens opened the scoring off of an assist by Owen Ritsema, while London Carpenter scored the second goal.
The Rockets’ goalkeeper Gavin Wright made seven saves.
Cohen Beck, Andrew Eilers, Braydon Ross, Kaden Vanderlaan and Keegan Sorito were lauded for their strong play in the Rockets’ defensive end.
Reeths-Puffer (1-0) will host Big Rapids on Tuesday for their home opener.
