WHITEHALL – The Reeths-Puffer volleyball team kicked off the season with a 2-2 finish at the Whitehall Invitational on Wednesday.

The Rockets topped Reed City (25-18, 25-19) and Newaygo (25-20, 25-21), but had tight losses to Kenowa Hills (25-22, 20-25, 12-25) and Whitehall (21-25, 18-25).

“Our girls came out firing in the first two and a half matches of the day and I feel that we clicked well as a team,” said Reeths-Puffer coach Justin Birr. “We made a lot of smart decisions with the ball and we had the mentality of winning each point instead of just playing through each point.”

Mady Snyder had 13 kills, 13 aces, 18 digs and two blocks, while Alissa Klopp added 20 kills, six digs and three blocks. Grace Darke chipped in 56 assists, scored seven aces and had 22 digs. Makayla Disselkoen had 17 kills, three digs and a block.

“Overall, it was a valuable first tournament with a lot learned throughout the day,” said Birr. “We saw what our potential was on the high and low end, and we have a lot of competitive girls on our team that are hungry for more positive outcomes.”

Reeths-Puffer (2-2) will host a quad against Fruitport, Ludington and Ravenna next Wednesday.
