“It was a close, competitive game as it always is between us and Fremont,” said Ludington coach Kris Anderson. “With Fremont being last year’s conference champs, we knew tonight was going to be a competitive game.
“They always play hard.”
Ayden Eaton drilled a shot that eluded Fremont’s goalkeeper just nine minutes in, off an assist from Aiden Wendt.
Ludington limited the Packers to just five shots on goal, all of which were rejected by Oriole keeper Gabe Gamez to notch the shutout.
Fremont netminder Caleb Vissia stepped up big in this major clash, finishing with 14 saves and kept the Packers in the game all night.
“Their goalkeeper played really well,” Anderson said. “He came up with some big, big saves. We had a lot of other great, great scoring opportunities and he was on, with big save after big save after big save.
“We’re taking the right shots, and very good shots, and tonight he was making the saves. You know, what can you do?”
Ludington improved to 9-3-4 overall and 5-1-1 in the conference. The Orioles travel to Ravenna for another WMC game Tuesday.
Fremont is now 12-4 overall and 5-2 in the WMC and will celebrate Youth Soccer Night Tuesday by hosting conference foe Montague.
